Leisure Rondwe Jalaram Girls Secondary School – Diani

The Leisure Rondwe Jalaram Girls Secondary School is our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative which focuses on giving the Girl Child better education and a chance in life to succeed and excel.  Kwale County has probably the lowest number of Girls education beyond primary school in the Country.

Background

The establishment of the school was driven by the need to start a centre of academic excellence in the south coast region that caters for bright girls from needy backgrounds. And was built  by Kantaria Family through Leisure Lodges to uplift the lives of girls who were in dire need of education. The school offers quality and affordable secondary school education to girls who cannot afford to pay school fees charged in public secondary schools.   Girls in that area are traditionally married off at an early age, without schooling of any kind.  As a result the level of women’s literacy is the lowest in the country.

The main objective behind starting the school  therefore was not only to uplift the girl child education in Kwale County but also empowering the womenfolk of the community, so as to break away from the common cycle of poverty that is rampant and has affected a bigger population of the County. The school started in the year 2012.

Forty students were admitted in its maiden year and it has maintained a teacher student ratio of 1:35.  Leisure Rondwe Jalaram Girls Sec. School and is registered with the ministry of education.

Student Population

The school draws its student population from the four sub- counties of Kwale County namely Matuga, Lungalunga, Msambweni and Kinango.

School Infrastructure

The School has a modern administration block, tuition block with 7 classes recently built by the Ray of Sunshine Charity Group in memory of Jay Kantaria and an ablution block, all belonging to Leisure Lodges Ltd.

The Chairman of the trust is Mr. John Mutua (a renowned hotelier), whose passion for education drove him to establish Leisure Rondwe Jalaram Girls School.
